Traffic Movement Update for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway

JAMMU, Jan 22(KV): The Traffic Police Headquarters in Jammu & Kashmir today issued an advisory for commuters regarding traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) for January 22, 2024.

Between January 20-21, slow moving traffic was observed on NH-44 due to breakdown of 3 heavy motor vehicles and poor road conditions near Dalwas, Cafeteria-Mehad, Magerkote, Nachlana and Hingani between Nashri and Navayug Tunnel. Passengers and LMV operators have been advised to prefer journey during daytime and avoid travel at night due to apprehension of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.

HMV owners have been requested to avoid overloading vehicles and carry sufficient fuel when travelling on NH-44. They have also been advised to double check vehicle fitness before travel. Only HMVs with 6 and 10 tyres will be allowed via Dhar road.

Subject to fair weather and clearance from NHAI, LMVs, passenger cars, HMVs and load carriers will be allowed from both sides on NH-44 between Jammu and Srinagar on January 22. Commuters have been advised to follow lane discipline.

Similarly, movement of security forces’ vehicles will be allowed on NH-44 from both sides, subject to fair weather and road conditions. On Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, LMVs followed by HMVs will be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 0830-1100 hrs and from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1230-1530 hrs. No vehicles shall be allowed after the cut-off timings.

On Mughal Road, vehicles shall be allowed from both sides between Behramgalla and Herpora from 1000-1500 hrs, subject to fair weather and road conditions.

Commuters have been advised to confirm road status before travelling on NH-44 from the Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Srinagar, Ramban, Udhampur and Kishtwar.
