Traffic Advisory Issued for Major Highways in J&K

Jammu, January 22, 2024: The Traffic Police Headquarters in Jammu & Kashmir has issued an advisory for commuters regarding traffic movement on major highways in the region.

The police have advised passengers and LMVs operators to prefer travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW) during daytime and avoid the journey at night due to the apprehension of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.

HMVs operators and owners have been requested to avoid overloading their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel when travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. They have also been advised to double-check the fitness of their vehicles before undertaking the journey.

Only HMVs with 6 and 10 tyres will be allowed to ply through the Dhar road.

According to the traffic plan issued for January 23, 2024, subject to fair weather and clearance from NHAI, LMVs like passenger cars, private cars, HMVs and load carriers will be allowed to ply on both sides of the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Commuters have been advised to follow lane discipline.

Similarly, security forces’ convoys will also be allowed from both sides, subject to fair weather and good road conditions.

On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, vehicular movement will be allowed from both sides, subject to fair weather. LMVs followed by HMVs will be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 0830 hrs to 1100 hrs. Likewise, LMVs followed by HMVs will be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1230 hrs to 1530 hrs. No vehicles will be permitted after the cut-off timings.

The SFs convoy from Srinagar to Kargil will leave at 0800 hrs. Convoys from Drass to Srinagar have been advised to plan their movement so as not to disturb civilian traffic.

On the Mughal Road, vehicular movement will be permitted from both sides between Poonch and Shopian, subject to fair weather. Vehicles will be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) between 1000 hrs to 1500 hrs after receiving the green signal from road agencies.

The advisory urges people to confirm the status of roads from Traffic Control Units before undertaking any journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
