Traffic Advisory Issued for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and Mughal Road on January 20, 2024

Srinagar, January 19: The Traffic Police Headquarters of Jammu & Kashmir today issued an advisory for traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and Mughal Road for January 20, 2024.

The advisory stated that light motor vehicles (LMVs) like passenger cars and heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) like trucks would be allowed to ply on the 300-km long Jammu-Srinagar Highway from both Jammu and Srinagar sides, subject to fair weather conditions and clearance from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline.

Movement of security forces’ convoys would also be allowed on the highway from both sides if the weather remains fair and the road condition is good.

For the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari stretch, known as SSG Road, LMVs followed by HMVs would be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 0830 hrs to 1100 hrs. Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs would be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1230 hrs to 1530 hrs. No vehicles would be allowed after the cut-off timings.

The security forces’ convoy from Srinagar to Kargil will leave at 0800 hrs. The convoy from Drass to Srinagar has been advised to plan its movement so that civilian traffic is not disturbed.

On the Mughal Road connecting Shopian in Kashmir valley to Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, traffic will be allowed from 1000 hrs to 1500 hrs from both sides, subject to fair weather and clearance from road agencies.

The public has been advised to check the status of the Jammu-Srinagar highway before starting their journey from traffic control units in Jammu, Srinagar, Ramban, Udhampur and Kishtwar. The PCR Kishtwar can also be contacted for status of the Sinthan road.

The advisory has been issued in the wake of apprehensions of shooting stones in the Ramban-Banihal stretch on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, besides the need to regulate traffic flow given wintry conditions.
