Srinagar has an increase in minimum temperature above freezing

While the Met Department predicts a decrease in minimum temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir over the next several days, the nighttime temperature in Srinagar soared above freezing on Monday (December 18).

Officials from the department reported Monday lows of 0.5 °C in Srinagar, compared to -8 °C in Gulmarg and -5.8 °C in Pahalgam.
The lowest temperature recorded on Monday was -12.2 in Leh town, Ladakh area, 11.1 in Kargil, and 12.5 in Drass.The Met Department reported the following low temperatures for the city of Jammu: 6.1 in Katra, 6.5 in Batote, minus 0.2 in Bhaderwah, and 3.4 in Banihal.
On December 21 and ending on January 30 of every year, the ‘Chillai Kalan,’ a fortyday stretch of severe winter cold, begins.
