SMC Takes Firm Action Against Shopkeepers for Littering

Srinagar, Nov 24 — The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is intensifying efforts to maintain a clean environment by targeting shopkeepers involved in improper waste disposal. The directive, issued by SMC Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan, instructs ward officers and sanitation officers to promptly address instances of garbage disposal outside shops.

Expressing concern over the adverse impact on the city’s cleanliness, officials emphasized the need for swift action. Shopkeepers found littering upon closing are subject to immediate measures by designated officers. Alternatively, ward officers and sanitation officers are empowered to capture photographic evidence, geo-tag the images, and forward them to the Municipal or City Sanitation Officers (MSO/CSO) for further action.

Local residents acknowledge the prevalent issue of shopkeepers disregarding proper waste management, applauding the SMC’s decisive stance. This proactive measure aims to not only uphold cleanliness standards but also discourage nonchalant attitudes among some shopkeepers.
