Road Blocks Expected on Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Traffic Disruptions Expected on Jammu-Srinagar Highway Due to Construction Work

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Jan 17: The Traffic Police Headquarters in Jammu & Kashmir has issued an advisory regarding expected traffic disruptions on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) over the next few days due to ongoing construction work.

According to the advisory, the highway remained blocked for 7 hours between January 16-17 due to the launching of girders at Mehar Bridge No. 19 and installation of ventilation and jet fans in Tunnel 5. Slow movement was observed in areas like Dalwas, Magerkote, Nachlana, and Hingani due to vehicle breakdowns and poor road conditions.

To ensure public safety during the construction work, the District Magistrate Ramban has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to suspend traffic on the highway between Nashri and Navyug Tunnel during the intervening night of January 17-18, from 12 am to 6 am. People have been advised to avoid travel between Nashri and Navyug Tunnel during this period and plan their journeys accordingly.

The advisory has requested passenger vehicle and LMV operators to undertake journeys during daytime and avoid night travel between Ramban and Banihal due to the threat of shooting stones. It has also appealed to heavy vehicle operators to avoid overloading and carry enough fuel.

The Traffic Police has also issued plans for convoy movement of security forces vehicles, traffic regulation on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, and the Mughal road. People planning to travel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway have been advised to confirm the status of the road before commencing their journey.
