My School My Pride’ Initiative Transforms Kishtwar’s Government Schools

KISHTWAR, JANUARY 23, 2024(KV): In a major development, the ‘My School My Pride’ initiative is transforming government schools across Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, aims to activate the School Management Committees (SMCs) in government schools. SMCs, comprising parents, teachers and panchayat members, play a key role in monitoring and improving the learning environment in schools.

Under the initiative, school walls are being painted with ‘Building as Learning Aids’ (BALA) to make them more vibrant. Funded voluntarily by parents, these paintings depict the educational journey of students. So far, over 800 government schools in Kishtwar have been covered under this drive.

Appreciating the role of parents, Dr. Yadav said their voluntary contributions have helped reshape government schools into dynamic learning spaces. The year-long initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the district administration, education department and India Education Collective, an NGO.

The core objective is to cover all elementary, primary and middle schools in remote areas of Kishtwar. ‘My School My Pride’ marks a significant shift, harnessing community participation to build engaging learning environments for children.
