Srinagar 7 Jan (KB):Extreme cold wave conditions prevailed in Kashmir today as the minimum temperatures dropped to several degrees below freezing point. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -5.6°C, while Gulmarg was colder at -4.4°C. Pahalgam in south Kashmir remained frozen at -6.5°C.

The cold wave intensified in other parts of the valley as well. Qazigund recorded a minimum of -5.0°C, Kupwara was at -5.3°C, Kokernag at -2.7°C, Sonamarg at -5.6°C, Anantnag at -6.5°C, Ganderbal at -4.4°C, Pulwama at -6.7°C, Bandipora at -5.5°C, Baramulla at -5.9°C, Budgam at -5.3°C, Kulgam at -3.4°C and Shopian at -6.9°C.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a low of 3.4°C while Banihal was freezing at -2.2°C. Batote, Katra, Bhaderwah, Kathua, Ramban, Reasi, Samba and Udhampur saw minimums of 2.1°C, 6.0°C, -0.2°C, 7.2°C, 1.9°C, 2.1°C, 3.6°C and 2.1°C respectively.

In Ladakh, Leh and Kargil shivered at -11.8°C and -10.6°C respectively.

The MET department has forecast the cold wave to continue over the next few days. People have been advised to take precautions and keep warm.
