Frigid Temperatures Grip Kashmir Valley

Srinagar, January 4 (KSA): Frigid conditions continued across Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh regions today as minimum temperatures remained below freezing point at most places.

In the Kashmir region, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -3.8°C. Qazigund was at -3.4°C, Pahalgam -5.1°C, Kupwara -3.9°C, Kokernag -2.4°C, Gulmarg -4.2°C, Anantnag -4.4°C, Ganderbal -3.1°C, Pulwama -5.0°C, Bandipora -3.9°C, Baramulla -4.3°C, Budgam -3.8°C, Kulgam -2.1°C and Shopian was the coldest in the valley at -5.5°C.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a minimum of 4.7°C. Other places like Banihal was at -0.4°C, Batote 3.1°C, Katra 6.2°C, Bhaderwah 1.1°C, Kathua 6.1°C, Ramban 3.1°C, Reasi 4.8°C, Samba 4.2°C and Udhampur 3.1°C.

The Ladakh region continued to reel under intense cold wave conditions as Leh recorded a minimum temperature of -11.0°C. Kargil was at -9.8°C and Drass, the second coldest place in India after Siberia, was at -12.1°C.

The weather department has forecast the cold wave conditions to continue over the next few days with possibility of light snowfall at isolated places. People have been advised to take precautions and protect themselves from the chilly conditions.–(Kashmir Student Alerts)
