Bone-Chilling Cold Continues in Kashmir, Ladakh; Respite in Jammu

Srinagar, January 16: An intense cold wave continues to grip Kashmir and Ladakh as minimum temperatures remained below freezing across the regions.

In Kashmir, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -4.6°C today. The famous tourist destination of Pahalgam was even colder at -5.4°C. South Kashmir also reeled under freezing cold with Anantnag at -6.1°C and Shopian at -6.1°C. The minimum temperature in Gulmarg was -3.1°C.

Other areas like Qazigund, Kupwara, Kokernag, Pulwama, Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam and Kulgam also experienced temperatures below -2°C.

In Ladakh, Leh and Kargil remained in the grip of intense cold at -8.1°C and -8.3°C respectively. The minimum temperature in Drass was a frigid -11°C.

Meanwhile, there was some respite from the cold wave in Jammu region today. Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 2.3°C. Other areas like Kathua, Samba and Batote also saw the mercury above freezing.

However, the chilly conditions are likely to continue over the next few days across Kashmir and Ladakh. People have been advised to take precautions and limit outdoor activities.
