After Weeks of Dry Weather, Rains Bring Relief in Kashmir

Srinagar, 27 January(KV): As moderate to rains pounded various sections of Kashmir on Sunday, the region finally received some reprieve from the dry and scorching weather that has plagued the region for weeks. Welcome relief from the sweltering heat and an improvement to the valleys weather conditions—the much-anticipated rainfall.

Jammu and Kashmir could see light rain showers on Sunday, according to the Meteorological Department. Parts of the districts of Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag, and Shopian have been receiving rains since Sunday morning, confirming the predictions. Sunday morning saw the rain picking up speed, providing much-needed relief from the oppressive heat and humidity.

According to report by kashmir visuals a considerable drop in day temperatures was caused by moderate rainfall that began in the morning in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. A precipitous 4 degree decrease from the preceding days brought Sunday’s high temperature to 7 degrees Celsius. Other sections of the Kashmir valley also saw similar weather.

There was moderate to heavy rainfall in both north and south Kashmir, which affected popular tourist spots including Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg. The lower parts of Gulmarg were pounded by rain, while the higher parts got fresh snowfall, according to reports. The recent spell of snowfall, has increased the number of tourists visiting Gulmarg. Fresh snowfall has enhanced the already breathtaking beauty of Gulmarg’s snow-covered surroundings.

Aside from water-logging and traffic congestion, the severe rains disrupted daily life in Srinagar. There has been a marked improvement in the heat and humidity during the previous several weeks, thanks to the rain. Due to last month’s lack of precipitation, many bodies of water and springs dried up; however, the recent showers have restored these natural resources.

It is predicted by the Meteorological Department that the spell of rain will persist for the next week. The rain, however, will probably lighten up by Monday night or Tuesday.

New precipitation has been a blessing for Kashmir’s farmers and agricultural endeavours. Because the rain has raised soil moisture levels, crop growth will be stimulated and yields will be improved. Parts of the valley will no longer be at risk of drought thanks to the rains.
